Purpose and potential

The reSolve Protocol emphasises the importance of being clear about the mathematical purpose of a learning experience. The intention of this module is that by working through tasks, discussing them and reflecting on the intentions of the task designers, teachers will think about the processes of task selection, planning and enactment generally, beyond the specific tasks that are the focus of the module.

The goals of the module are for participants to:

  • evaluate some reSolve tasks by inspection and identify possible purposes of the tasks;
  • consider the characteristics of the tasks that they value;
  • examine the tasks in detail and reflect on the alignment with the curriculum and the intentions of the task designer; and
  • consider the implications of task selection and examination for their future planning and teaching.
